Privacy Policy

Who we are

This website (msn-globalisation.org) is published by Monitoring Sustainability of Globalisation (MSN), MSN Diversified Sdn Bhd. MSN is the data controller responsible for any personal data described in this policy.

If you have any question about this policy or about how your information is handled, you can contact us using the details in the Contact section at the end.

The short version

We keep this simple because the site itself is simple. It is a place to read MSN’s publications, statements, videos, podcasts, and press coverage. It does not have user accounts, a shop, or contact forms, and reader comments are turned off. We do not ask you to register or submit personal details to read anything on this site.

The only personal data we collect is website usage statistics, and only after you have agreed to analytics cookies through the consent banner. If you decline, no analytics data is collected.

What information we collect

1. Analytics (only with your consent). We use Google Analytics 4 to understand, in aggregate, how the site is used — for example, which pages are popular, roughly where visitors come from, and what devices they use. This helps us improve the site and report on the reach of our work.

Google Analytics is blocked until you accept analytics cookies on the consent banner that appears on your first visit. If you decline, or simply ignore the banner, Google Analytics does not run and this data is not collected.

The information collected through analytics may include your approximate location (derived from your IP address), the pages you view, the time and duration of your visit, the website or search that referred you, and your browser and device type. We see this as aggregated statistics, not as a profile of you as a named individual.

2. Standard server logs. Like virtually all websites, our web host keeps basic technical server logs (such as IP addresses and requested pages) for security, troubleshooting, and to keep the site running reliably. These are standard hosting records, not used to identify or track individual visitors for marketing.

We do not collect names, email addresses, or other contact details through this site, because there are no sign-up forms, contact forms, or accounts. If you choose to email us, we will of course have whatever you put in that email — see Contact below.

Cookies

The consent banner lets you accept or decline non-essential cookies (such as analytics). You can change your choice at any time using the cookie/consent controls on the site.

For the full, detailed list of cookies this site uses and what each one does, please see our Cookie Policy, which is kept up to date automatically by our consent tool.

How we use the information

We use the analytics information described above only to:

  • Understand how visitors find and use the site
  • Improve the site’s content, structure, and performance
  • Report, in aggregate, on the reach and impact of MSN’s work

We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising or to build marketing profiles.

Legal basis and your choices

For visitors in regions where consent is required (including the European Union), our legal basis for analytics is your consent, which you give through the cookie banner and can withdraw at any time.

You can withdraw consent or change your cookie choices at any time by using the consent controls on the site, or by clearing the cookies stored by your browser. Withdrawing consent stops further analytics collection from that point.

Who your information is shared with

The analytics information is processed on our behalf by Google, as the provider of Google Analytics. Google processes this data in accordance with its own privacy and data-processing terms. We do not share your information with any other third party for their own marketing purposes.

We may disclose information if required to do so by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or security of MSN, our site, or others.

How long we keep it

Analytics data is retained for 14 months within Google Analytics, after which it is automatically deleted or aggregated according to our analytics settings. Standard server logs are retained by our host for a limited period as part of normal hosting operations.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal data — including, under Malaysia’s Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) and, for visitors in the EU, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the right to:

  • Ask what personal data (if any) we hold about you
  • Ask us to correct or delete it
  • Withdraw your consent to analytics at any time
  • Object to or restrict certain processing

Because this site collects so little — and only with consent — there is usually very little personal data tied to any individual. To exercise any of these rights, or to ask a question, please contact us using the details below.

Third-party links and embedded content

This site links to, and sometimes embeds, content from other websites — for example, news articles (press clippings), and videos or podcasts hosted on external platforms. When you click through to, or interact with, embedded content from another site, that other site’s own privacy policy applies. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of external sites.

Children’s privacy

This site is intended for a general audience interested in MSN’s research and advocacy. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be reflected on this page.
